I’ve always cried easily, especially when I’m angry and don’t feel like I have an outlet for my frustration. One of the first things I learned in Corporate America was how to cry without letting your mascara run. The office manager took me aside and showed me how to sit in my desk chair and lean over so my face was parallel to the floor. “That way,” she said, “the tears drip straight onto the carpet and don’t ruin your makeup.” Given that I cried daily at that particular job, it was handy advice, but mostly, I just stopped wearing mascara.
